With a talented freshmen class and a crew of solid returning players, BYU women’s tennis looks to improve upon its second season in the West Coast Conference.
- In the 2013 season the Cougars played to a 10-11 (3-5 WCC) record, highlighted by beating No. 70 Washington State late in the season, 4-3.
- Six players return to the team this year with three juniors, two sophomores and one senior.
- The roster includes five newcomers this year in freshmen Mayci Jones, Toby Miclat, Savannah Ware, Sydney Monson and Demi Daniels. This incoming class was ranked in the top 15 in the country ahead of Florida, Duke, Michigan and Cal.
- Jones is ranked No. 7, and junior Meghan Sheehan-Dizon is No. 14 in the Mountain Region.
- Highlighting the fall season, Jones made a run into the quarterfinals of the USTA/ITA Mountain Region Championships in October. Jones’ run into the final eight was the furthest a BYU player has advanced in the regional tournament since 2009, when Kristina Doerr made the final four. Her finish is also the highest for a freshman since her sister, McCall Jones, made it to the final sixteen in 2008.
- Sheehan-Dizon is ranked No. 14 in singles in the Mountain Region. She compiled a 7-3 fall record while taking the singles and doubles title in the BYU Invitational.
- The schedule this season includes 12 matches against nationally ranked opponents including No. 36 Yale, No. 45 Washington and No. 58 Utah.
