STANFORD, Calif. – Allysha Mae Mateo will represent BYU women’s golf in the individual competition at the NCAA Stanford Regional at Stanford Golf Course on May 10-12.

Mateo is one of six individuals selected to compete at the Stanford Regional. The other individual competitors are Samantha Fuller of UNLV, Brigitte Thibault of Fresno State, Brittany Shin of Cal State Fullerton, Holland Shourds of Long Beach State and Victoria Estrada of UVU.

A total of 24 golfers were selected from teams not receiving bids to compete as individuals at the four regional sites. Each site includes a field of 18 teams and six individuals. The top-3 individuals from non-advancing teams will move-on to the NCAA Championships at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona on May 21-26.

At the Stanford Regional, Mateo will face golfers from some of the nation’s best. No. 3 Wake Forest, No. 6 Oklahoma State and No. 10 USC are the regional’s top-3 seeds. WCC-rival Pepperdine will compete at Stanford as the 13-seed.

Mateo’s selection to the NCAA Regionals is only the latest successful mark of her 2020-21 season. After posting top-15 finishes in nine of ten tournaments, including five in the top-5 and four in the top-3, Mateo was named WCC Women’s Golf Player of the Year on April 26.

“Allysha Mae is special in that she mentally and physically puts in the work,” said BYU head coach Carrie Roberts. “She is so special in competition due to her ability to think through situations, stay in the moment and make sure she is giving everything she has to every shot.”

The junior from Honolulu, Hawaii, is currently listed at No. 110 in the Golfstat top-250 player rankings, making her the highest ranked individual out of the WCC.

Mateo will be BYU’s first individual competitor at NCAA Regionals since Rose Huang in 2019. Huang took 35th at the Cle Elum Regional in Washington with a 54-hole score of 77-75-68—221.

Mateo will tee-off at Stanford at 8 a.m. PDT on Monday, May 10. Follow the regional with live scoring updates via Golfstat.
