PROVO, Utah -- As the 2011 NCAA track and field regular season nears a close, the BYU men’s and women’s track teams will send a small number of athletes to compete in the prestigious Penn Relays beginning on Thursday.

The men’s team will compete in four events as a team, all relays. Three of the four events will take place on Friday, starting with the 4x200m relay at 11:50 a.m. Following the 4x200m relay for the Cougars will be the distance medley relay at 2:00 p.m. and the 4x400m relay at 2:40 p.m.

On Saturday the men will compete in the 4x800m relay at 2:25 p.m. The Cougars also may be competing in the 4x200m and 4x400m relays on Saturday if they advance from the preliminary heats on Friday.

On the women’s side, head coach Patrick Shane will have the athletes competing in three events. First up for the women will be the distance medley relay on Thursday at 3:20 p.m. Also competing on Thursday will be senior Kari Hardt in the 3000m steeplechase at 6:00 p.m. Hardt is the lone BYU individual athlete competing at the Penn Relays.

The final race for the women will be the 4x800m relay on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. Each of the women’s races will be run in a ‘timed finals’ format, meaning no preliminary heats will be needed.

All times listed for BYU races are Mountain.
