Four Cougars Look to Improve Marks for Nationals

PROVO -- BYU’s track teams will be sending a four athletes to the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Indiana and the Washington Final Qualifier in Seattle this weekend in hopes to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships next week.

Two distance runners for the men’s team will compete at the Notre Dame hosted invitational. Senior Nathan Ogden will compete in the 5000-meter while sophomore Travis Fuller will run the mile.

Ogden currently has the 29th best time in the 5000-meter in the NCAA’s this season with a 13:55.70. The senior will need to shave about seven seconds off his time to ensure the invite to nationals.

In the mile run, Fuller ran a season-best 4:02.79 at the Husky Classic and will look to run close to a sub-four minute time to qualify.

On the women's side, pole vaulters Christen Botteron and Rachel Fisher will head to the Washington Final Qualifier to try and improve their marks.

Botteron and Fisher are currently both ranked 14th in the nation with vaults of 4.22m (13-10.00).

The top 16 athletes in each event qualify for the National Championships.
