PROVO -- The first indoor meet of the season for the BYU men’s and women’s track teams commences this Friday at the BYU Home Invitational in the Smith Fieldhouse.

“We are not trying to look down on the whole season,” women’s head coach Craig Poole said. “Our anticipations are always to be successful and our goals and our work load are directed to that end.”

After a historic 2009 indoor season, the women’s track team starts this season ranked fifth in the country according to the USTFCCCA preseason rankings. The men’s team will start ranked 27th in the preseason rankings. Providing the early competition for the Cougars this weekend will be runners from Utah Valley, Weber State and Utah.

“We have many strong athletes in all events, and we hope to attain the status of a top-20 team this season,” men’s coach Mark Robison said. “We are ready to see who steps up.”

The Invitational will begin Friday at noon MST with the women’s pentathlon and will close at 5:00 p.m. with the women’s shot put. The meet will continue into Saturday, starting with the men’s heptathlon at 10:00 a.m. and ending with the men and women’s 4x1 lap (322m) relay.
