EUGENE, Ore., (June 27, 2009) – It was the conclusion of an outstanding senior season for BYU’s national steeplechase champion and five-time All-American, Kyle Perry, with a fourth-place finish at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Moving up from his sixth-place seeded ranking going into the competition, Perry came out of the final round in fourth with a time of 8:36.65.

Coming in first was former BYU Cougar and Olympian Joshua McAdams. Adams, running for New Balance, finished with a final time of 8:29.91.

“I thought the race was going to go out a little faster,” said McAdams. “Billy got out there and took the lead. Then Dan took it with two laps to go. It really played into my hands, this race. I was kind of surprised.”

Second place went to Daniel Huling, with Reebok, finishing in 8:32.86, while third place went to Kyle Alcorn, with Nike, in 8:34.65.

The top three will advance to the 2009 IAFF World Championships in Berlin, Germany at the Olympic Stadium. The meet will take place August 15-23.

Perry concludes his 2009 track season with a fifth-place finish in the distance medley relay at the NCAA indoor national championships. In outdoors, he earned the Mountain West Conference champion crown for the 1,500 meter run and 3,000-meter steeplechase, along with helping the 4x400-meter relay team take home a fourth-place finish.

These earned him the 2009 MWC Men’s Outdoor High Point Award with 21.5 points, as well as the MWC Outdoor Track and Field Male Athlete of the Year.

Later in the outdoor season, Perry took home the NCAA national championship title in the steeplechase with a time of 8:29.24, being only the second Cougar in the MWC history to do so.
