Track Looks to Repeat as Conference Champions
PROVO -- Entering the final stretch of the season, the BYU men’s and women’s track teams will look to defend their Mountain West Conference Indoor titles this week in Laramie, Wyo., at the MWC Outdoor Championships.
This marks the first time the University of Wyoming has held a MWC Championship track event. The meet will be held at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex, Wednesday through Saturday, May 13-16.
“We will be approaching this event in the same way we do with every other meet,” said BYU women’s track and field head coach Craig Poole. “We’re going with our best lineup and hope each athlete can compete at the best of their ability. “
The No. 11 ranked BYU women’s team head to the championships with confidence and a conference-best 11 top-25 nationally ranked individual performances.
“As always we won’t be looking at the outcome, but at what each individual can do,” Poole said.
Ranked No. 20, the men contribute six athletes leading the conference in events going into the MWC Championships. The men have won 11 of the past 12 outdoor championships.
“We are very excited for this week,” said BYU men’s track and field head coach Mark Robison. “This is going to be a fun meet and the weather is supposed to be good. This is something we’ve been looking forward to all season.”
The first two days of competition will consist of the men’s decathlon and the women’s heptathlon beginning at 12 p.m. MT.
