BYU Track Finishes Heptathlon at Texas Relays

AUSTIN -- An injury filled day two at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas, ended as well as it could for the No. 3 BYU women’s track team.

Amy Menlove, the 2009 Pentathlon National Champion had to pull out of Thursday’s competition after aggravating her lower back in yesterday’s high jump event.

“Amy will be fine,” said BYU women’s track and field head coach Craig Poole. “We just thought it would be smart to let her rest, so she can have a quick recovery.”

Menlove entered the second day of competition in second place with 3,422 points, but was unable to record a result due to her injury. Also competing for the Cougars in the heptathlon was Mindy Robins.

Robins finished the meet in 12th place with 4,580 points and ended the second day of competition with an impressive seventh-place finish in the javelin throw (108-08.00).

“Mindy performed well under the circumstances,” Poole said. “She’s been sick, which made it difficult today and yesterday, but her future is incredibly bright. This was a great experience for her.”

BYU will continue to compete Friday at the Texas Relays beginning with All-American Amy Layne’s 3,000-meter steeplechase event. For live results go to http://www.texassports.com/livestats/m-track/relays/index.htm.

The Cougars will also be in action Friday at the BYU Cougar Invitational in Provo, Utah. The meet will begin at 10 a.m. MT with the women’s hammer throw.
