OGDEN -- The Cougar track and field teams had a drama-less close to the regular outdoor season at the Weber Twilight Wednesday.

"The women did well and we had a couple of highlights, but it was not our best meet of the season," women's coach Craig Poole said. "It tells us we were a little tired from last week but we will be on top of it and ready to go by the conference championships."

BYU pole vault record-holder, Mandy Kelly Lonsway, won the pole vaulting competition at the meet with a jump of 13 feet. Julene Bailey-Kaufusi took third in the event with a height of 12 feet 2.5 inches.

Tiffany Arrhenius won the javelin competition with a throw of 145 feet 6.5 inches and freshman Sarah Butler finished second with a throw of 142 feet 8 inches. Candace Jones had a season-best performance in the hammer, taking third with a throw of 152 feet 4 inches.

Freshman Mindy Neeley took second in the long jump with a jump of 19 feet 1 inch. Kristin Hirst and Ashley Payne took second and third, respectively, in the high jump competition. Both jumped to a height of 5 feet 4.75 inches.

Nicole Nevitt crossed the line with a time of 1:02.83 in the 400-meter hurdles to take second. Teammate Julie Andersen followed just behind in third. Nevitt also took third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.70. Emily Page tied for third in the 100 meters with a time of 12.64. The 400-meter relay team of Neeley, Page, Kelly Nesbit-Furr and Sarah Lacey took second in their event, clocking a time of 47.62.

Carolyn Quebe took second in the women's 1500 meters with a time of 4:40.23. Freshmen Katie Porter and Sarah Hansen went 1-2 in the 5,000 meters with times of 18:31.12 and 18:35.19.

The men's performances were telling of chilled temperatures and fatigue, men's sprint coach, Leonard Myles-Mills, remarked.

"They just couldn't push themselves," He said. "There were a few good performances, but nothing too great."

The men did have some noteworthy marks throughout the evening of competition. Joe Dredge won the men's triple jump with a jump of 45 feet 7.5 inches. Junior Paul Smith won the men's 100 meters with a time of 10.77. Cody Fonnesbeck finished second in the event with a time of 10.80. Hurdler Ben Gardner won the men's 200 meters with a time of 21.54, the third-fastest time for the team this season.

Jake Garlick took second, Nate Rencher third, in the 100-meter hurdles with times of 14.28 and 14.47, respectively. Stig Robertson finished second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.66. The 400-meter relay team of Fonnesbeck, Smith, Gardner and Nate Soelberg won the event with a time of 40.53.

Freshman Josh Adams won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:27.25. Andrew Martin finished second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:54.32.

The Cougars currently have 27 men and 15 women qualified for Regionals in at least one event. No new qualifiers were added at Wednesday's meet.

The Cougars will host the MWC Championships (May 10-13) and NCAA West Regionals (May 26-27) in the month of May. For ticket information or more on the BYU track and field program visit www.byucougars.com and www.byutrack.com.
