NOTRE DAME -- Success is often a team effort and the men's distance medley relay pulled together and found their way to it at the Alex Wilson Last Chance qualifier in Notre Dame over the weekend.

"We came here to get athletes qualified for nationals and they did exactly what they needed to do to accomplish that goal," distance coach Ed Eyestone said.

The relay team not only did their jobs, they went all out. Sophomore Jacob Gustafsson started things off well, the baton then flew in the hands of Ben Gardner, Jason Dorais and finally Josh McAdams, who brought them across the line in third with a time of 9:33.77. The time, currently the third-fastest time in the nation for the DMR, is a provisional qualification for nationals and on the heels of the current BYU record of 9:33.70.

"I'm very excited to go to nationals as a member of the DMR," senior Josh McAdams said. "Everybody did their job and it all just came together. Now we have a good shot at doing some exciting things at nationals."

Another notable individual performance was that of freshman Kyle Perry. Perry provisionally qualified for nationals in the 3,000 meters with a personal-record and team season-best performance of 8:04.22.

Top provisional qualifiers for nationals will be determined Tuesday. The NCAA National Championships will be Mar. 10-11, 2006 in Fayetteville, Ark.

Provo will play host to five outdoor meets this season including the MWC Outdoor Championships and the NCAA Regional Championships. For more information about the BYU track and field program or for schedule information, visit our Web sites and www.byucougars.com or www.byutrack.com.
