Track to Compete at NCAA Indoor Championships

PROVO -- The BYU men's and women's track and field teams will compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships Friday and Saturday in Fayetteville, Ark.

The men's team is sending four athletes, and the women's team is sending six athletes. Sophomore Nate Robison will run the mile and has the fourth fastest time in the nation at 3:59.70. In the 3,000-meter run, BYU sophomore Kip Kangogo is ranked fourth in the nation with a time of 7:52.40. Senior Jeremy Kemp and junior Trent Powell both cleared 17-07/5.36m and are ranked 11th and 12th, respectively.

For the women's team, senior Jamie Cottle will compete in the mile run with a best time of 4:43.67. Junior Michaela Mannova is ranked 11th in the 3,000-meter run and has a best time of 9:16.79. In the 5,000-meter run, seniors Lindsey Thomsen and Katie Martin will run in the 11th and 13th spots, respectively. Thomsen has a best time of 16:16.37, and Martin has a best time of 16:18.13. The women's distance medley relay team will also run at nationals with a best time of 11:17.64. The relay team includes Kassi Andersen, Jamie Cottle, Aneta Lemiesz and Jennifer Rockwell.

Friday's competition will start at noon with the men's weight throw and end at 9 p.m. with the distance medley relays. Competition will continue Saturday at 2 p.m. with the women's weight throw and end around 8 p.m. with the 1,600-meter run. Last year, BYU men's team placed 15th at indoor nationals and the women's team finished 16th.
