BYU's Bolm and Andam Sweep McLeodUSA Mtn. West Track and Field Athlete of the Week Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 25) - BYU junior Kenneth Andam and senior Kirsten Bolm were named McLeodUSA Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for their performances last weekend. This is the second time Bolm has won the award during the 2000 outdoor season.

Bolm, a native of Scheesel, Germany, earned three first-place finishes at the Robison Invitational in Provo, Utah, last weekend. In the 100-meter hurdles, she beat former teammate and 2000 Olympian Tiffany Lott with her NCAA automatic-qualifying time of 13.08. That mark is the best in the Mountain West Conference this season by 0.36 seconds. Ranked number one in the nation in the Long Jump, Bolm's leap of 21' 2" was more than two feet farther than the second-place finisher. Bolm also captured first place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11:68. Competing in the event for the first time this season, her mark is a team-best and second-best in the league this year.

Andam, a junior from Takoradi, Ghana, collected three first-place finishes at the Robison Invitational in Provo, Utah, last weekend. While recovering from a stress fracture in his leg which he suffered in January, Andam won the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.22, an NCAA provisional mark and league-best this season. He also won the 200-meter dash with a conference-best time of 20.93. Andam anchored the Cougars' 4x100-meter relay team which posted a first-place time of 40.15, 0.02 seconds off their conference-best mark. This was Andam's first full meet since suffering the leg injury on Jan. 29.

Last Week's Winners: BYU senior Susan Taylor, UNLV junior Jenni Nelson, Colorado State senior Casey Malone
