BYU to Host 13th Annual Clarence Robison Invitational

PROVO -- The BYU men's and women's track teams are at home this week hosting the 2001 Clarence Robison Invitational, May 2-5. Schools from Nevada, Idaho, and Utah will be participating in this year's competition.

The Robison Invitational is one of the last track events of the regular season for the Cougars prior to heading to San Diego to defend their title as Mountain West Conference champions and then to Eugene,

Ore. for the NCAA championships.

Stacy Dragila, the current world record holder for the women's pole vault, is scheduled to compete at this year's invitational. Dragila broke her own world record in competition at the ISU Springfest in Pocatello, Ida. on Sat., April 28.

The Cougars will have a large contingent of athletes competing at the meet this weekend, and hope to qualify even more athletes for this year's NCAA championships. BYU has already qualified 21 individuals for the NCAA championships, nine of those being automatic qualifiers.

Schools scheduled to compete include MWC rival University of Utah, Utah State, Weber State, University of Nevada, Southern Utah University, Idaho State University, Utah Valley State College, College of Eastern Utah, and Ricks College.

Theheptathlon competition will be taking place on Wed., May 2 and Thurs., May 3. Individual running and field events will occur on Friday, May 4 and Sat., May 5. Opening ceremonies will be held at 11:55 a.m. on Saturday.

All events are free and open to the public and will be held at the BYU Track Stadium, located just south of LaVell Edwards Stadium.
