No. 6 BYU posts 15 top-three finishes, four PR’s as Robison Invitational concludes

PROVO, Utah - No. 6 BYU men’s track and field concluded the Robison Invitational at the Clarence F. Robison Track and Field Complex with four new personal records and 15 top-three finishes across nine events Saturday.

Ranked No. 8 nationally in the discus throw, Dallin Shurts recorded a 59.66m/195-8.75 heave to finish atop 33 participants.

The Cougars dominated the 3,000-meter steeplechase, placing all four runners in the top four. Christian Allen led wire to wire, crossing the line at 9:02.22 in his first-ever collegiate steeplechase. James Corrigan came next at 9:04.86, followed by Garrett Stanford (9:07.95) and Zach Erikson (9:26.55).

The 4x100-meter crew of Kyler Haughton, Trey Jackson, Easton Bianchi and Dallin Draper teamed up to record a first-place and season-best, 39.33 finish. The performance was good for 16th nationally as the group finished just 0.45 seconds behind the all-time school record set in 1999.

Freshman hurdlers Treyton Anderson and Logan Hubler placed first and second in the 110-meter hurdles final with 14.77 and 14.82 performances, respectively. Hubler’s 14.82 time was a new personal record, besting his 15.00 record set just yesterday in the preliminary round.

Abram Schaap took down a four year-old personal record in his finish atop the 200-meters, crossing the line at 21.04. His prior personal best in the event was 21.67, also at the Robison Invitational in 2019.

The men’s 4x400-meter squads took first and second, as Squad A - Jared Davis, Dallin Draper, Eli Hazlett and Trey Jackson - won the event at 3:07.92. Jace Jensen, Landon Maxfield, Abram Schaap and Josh Taylor led Squad B to a 3:08.56 finish.

Easton Bianchi took second in the 100-meter final, sprinting to a 10.40 finish just 0.03 seconds shy of a career-best for the senior. Danny Bryant (17.44m/57-2.5) and Harrison Gould (16.80m/55-1.5) took second and third in the shot put.

Other personal bests included freshman Dallin Thornton’s 5.13m/16-10 pole vault clearance and Omar Aburouss's 22.48 in the 200m

The Cougars return to action next Saturday, April 29 with the Desert Heat Classic, hosted by Arizona at Roy P. Drachman Stadium.
