Eight PR’s headline Friday’s Robison Invitational

PROVO, Utah - No. 6 BYU men’s track and field posted eight new personal records on day three of the Robison Invitational, with seven of the eight coming from the sprints and hurdles groups.

Eli Hazlett led the charge in the 400-meters, surging ahead of the pack in the final 60 meters to surpass his last personal record by 0.90 seconds. The Cougars dominated the 400m field as Josh Taylor placed second (46.47) for a personal best with Trey Jackson at third (46.57). Abram Schaap also registered a personal record at 47.10, followed by Landon Maxfield’s 48.12 performance.

“Very solid day for the entire sprint and hurdle group,” BYU sprints, hurdles and relays coach Kyle Grossarth said. “The men’s 400-meter runners ran really well with Eli Hazlett leading the way and Abram Schaap coming through with a long-awaited PR. I’m super happy with the performance of the group and am excited for tomorrow’s events. Exciting stuff as we start to get closer to a championship season.”

Jace Jensen finished atop the 400-meter hurdles, holding momentum to the end as he clocked in at 53.70. Treyton Anderson and Logan Hubler came next for the Cougars at third (54.33) and fifth (57.85) - both new personal bests. Anderson and Hubler’s success on the day didn’t stop there, as both freshmen also earned personal bests in the 110-meter hurdles to advance to tomorrow’s final. Anderson placed first (14.56) with Hubler at second (15.00).

Danny Bryant posted a personal record of his own, heaving for 55.80m/183-0.75 in the hammer throw to represent the field athletes for personal bests on the day. The sophomore’s last career best in the event was a 55.76m/182-11 in May of 2022.

In the 100-meter preliminary round, three Cougars qualified for tomorrow’s final: Easton Bianchi at first (10.49), Dallin Draper at second (10.50) and Kyler Haughton at seventh (10.78). Omar Aburouss also ran an 11.17.

The men are back in action tomorrow starting with the discus throw at 11:00 a.m.
