Five recruits sign with BYU

PROVO, Utah – Five recruits have been announced by BYU men’s track and field as signing national letters of intent with the Cougars: Cameron Bates, Ben Craig, Jared Davis, William Handley and Logan MacKay.

Bates, a senior at Maple Mountain High School in Spanish Fork, Utah, is the No. 8 ranked javelin thrower in the class of 2016. He won the Great Southwest Classic with a throw of 199'6”. He was also the 2015 Utah state javelin champion.

Craig, a senior at Central Valley High School in Spokane Valley, Washington, ran 14.35 to win the 110-meter hurdles at the 2015 Washington 3A/4A Greater Spokane League Regionals. His time of 39.76 placed third in the 300-meter hurdles at the same event.

Davis, a senior at Copley High School in Copley, Ohio, ran 37.97 for the 300-meter hurdles at the 2015 Ohio D1 Region championships. He also ran 14.38 in the 110-meter hurdles at the Dover Tornado Relays.

Handley, a senior at Timpanogos High School in Orem, Utah, placed 25th at the 2015 Nike Cross Country National Championships with a time of 15:33.20 in the 5k. He also finished second at the 2015 Bob Firman Invitational, running the 5k in 15:17.30.

MacKay, a senior at Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah, represented team USA this summer at the Caribbean Scholastic Invitational in Cuba. While there he ran 1:53.05 in the 800-meters, and at the 2015 New Balance Outdoor Nationals in Greensboro, NC he ran 4:13.39 for the full mile.

The quintet is eligible to compete for the Cougars beginning in the 2016-17 season.
