PROVO, Utah – BYU track and field athletes will have one last chance to qualify for indoor nationals at the MPSF Championships hosted by the University of Washington Friday and Saturday.

“We’re looking forward to it,” BYU head track coach Ed Eyestone said. “We have four or five athletes that have qualified for nationals. First and foremost it will be a nice tune-up for them. It’s a good opportunity to have one solid competition two weeks before nationals. In addition, this is the last indoor meet for the majority of the team. We’re looking to come home with at least 30 season bests. That would be more than half the team running their best time of the year.”

Teams throughout the Western United States will be participated with 14 men’s teams and 19 women’s teams. The MPSF Championships start Friday at 12:00 p.m. PST at Dempsey Indoor facility. Live updates can be found on the BYU women's track schedule page

Athletes to watch

Shaquille Walker currently holds the 10th fastest time in the nation in the 800 meters with a time of 1:47.44. Walker has placed first in an event at every meet he has competed in this season.

Jason Witt’s time of 13:42.08 in the 5000 meters was set at the Dempsey indoor track one month ago and is good for ninth in the nation this season.

Shea Martinez is sixth in the nation running a 2:04.79 time in the 800 meters two weeks ago at the Husky Classic.

Anginae Monteverde will look to continue climbing the national rankings in the pole vault. Monteverde’s season high of 4.27 meters puts her at 12th in the nation.
