FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The 4x400 relay team of Tyrell Yardley, Sean Adams, Mario Harper and Korey Smith highlighted the final day of competition for BYU in the 2014 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships - West Preliminary on Saturday.

“It was great to see our 4x400 team compete today,” BYU head coach Ed Eyestone said. “Tyrell got us off to a great start, Korey had a great leg as well and Sean did a great job to close it out.”

The relay team set a new season best with a time of 4:07.29 just 0.13 seconds off a qualifying mark.

Junior Lexi Eaton competed in the high jump and posted a mark of 1.72 meters and just missed out on a jump off that helped decide the final qualifiers.

Senior Curtis Carr fought off an injury to compete in the 5000-meter race but was unable to post a qualifying time, bringing an end to a very successful career.

“I’m proud of the way Curtis competed,” Eyestone said. “He was still a little banged up, but he gave it his all in the 5000 meter today.”

Andrea Harrison, Chase Dalton, Joshua Weirich, Jason Witt, Kyle Baker and Shea Martinez all finished the Western Preliminary as qualifiers for the NCAA Championships.

“We have six headed to Eugene and we are excited for the opportunity to compete,” Eyestone said. “We have Shea representing the future of our program to go along with our five veterans.”

The NCAA Championships will take place in Eugene, Oregon, on the campus of the University of Oregon from June 11-14.
