Bringhurst leads Cougars at Armory Invitational

NEW YORK—Braydon Bringhurst won the pole vault to lead BYU men’s track in a strong performance Friday and Saturday at the Armory Invitational.

“The Armory Invitational is always one of the highlights of our indoor season,” BYU head coach Ed Eyestone said. “The team did a good job of stepping up and having some good performances across the board. It was good preparation for our upcoming meets.”

Bringhurst continued his strong season, winning with a mark of 5.45 meters. He cleared multiple heights on his third and final attempt.

Dakoda John led the BYU high jumpers, finishing second in the high jump, with a mark of 2.10 meters. Zachary Blackham and Sam Rockwood tied for third, both clearing 2.06 meters.

The Cougars had good performances in the sprints with Korey Smith winning the 500 meters in the college division with a time of 1:04.07. Sean Adams took second in the 400 meters in 48.11. Benjamin Meyer finished fourth in the 200 meters in 22.58.

The BYU distance runners turned in a solid outing with Curtis Carr taking fourth in the 3000 meters in 8:17.04. Taylor Farnsworth and Jonathan Nelson took third and fourth in college mile, respectively, posting times of 4:10.48 and 4:11.21. Steve Flint finished in 4:10.81 and Tommy Gruenewald in 4:11.41 to take fourth and fifth in the championship mile.

The Cougars return to action next weekend, Feb. 14 and 15, with another trip to Seattle to compete in the Washington Invitational.
