TUCKER, Colo. — BYU men’s golf finished sixth at the Paintbrush Invitational shooting a three-round total of 296-296-311—903 at Colorado Golf Club Tuesday.

“There was a lot of wind today that made it very difficult to score,” said BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank. “We got off to a rocky start and could never get ourselves into a groove.”

The Cougars posted a 23-over par in the final round which dropped them into sixth-place finish at 903 (+39). Tournament champion Colorado State finished at 890 (+26), while Denver (+32), Northern Colorado (+32), North Dakota State (+37) and Long Beach State (+38) rounded out the top-5.

Carson Lundell (76-74-75—225) and Keanu Akina (72-75-78—225) finished in a tie for 17th at 9-over par to lead the Cougars. David Timmins shot 74-76-80—230 to finish tied for 40th and Max Brenchley posted scores of 74-79-78—231 to tie for 44th, while Cole Ponich recorded scores of 78-71-83—232 to finish tied for 48th.

Playing as an individual, freshman Zac Jones had rounds of 68-78-79—225 to secure a top-20 finish in his first collegiate event. Brock Goyen, who was also completing as an individual, shot 77-76-75—228 to tie for 33rd in his first event as a Cougar.

“It was great to see Goyen and Jones play some great golf as individuals,” said BYU Director of Golf Todd Miller. Tied for 17th is a nice finish for Zac in his first collegiate event.”

Elijah Turner had the highlight of the day with a double-eagle two on the par-5 16th hole. The junior from Highland, Utah, had rounds of rounds 84-80-75—239.

The Cougars next travel to Reno, Nevada, for the Nevada Wolfpack Invitational at Hidden Valley Country Club on October 11-12.
