CHULA VISTA, California – BYU men's golf struggled after the first two rounds of the Lamkin San Diego Classic, finishing the day in a tie for eighth place.
"We played alright in the morning, then we played poorly in the afternoon from top to bottom," BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. "New Mexico was playing really well. When they get going, they can wear you out. I'm hoping that we can come out tomorrow and put together a good team score."
The Cougars are in a tie for eighth place with Arizona at 21-over-par after the first day. New Mexico has a comfortable first-place lead (-14), while fellow West Coast Conference teams San Diego and Pepperdine are tied for second place and sixth place, respectively.
Senior Jordan Rodgers led BYU by shooting two-over-par to end the day in a tie for 29th place. He also shot the lowest round so far for the Cougars with 70 in the first round.
Tommy Higham and Cole Ogden finished within four places of each other. Higham shot six-over-par and is in a tie for 43rd, while Ogden shot 7-over-par to put him in a tie for 47th.
Despite a rough first round, Mike Jurca shot better in the second round to be in a tie for 58th place (+10). The opposite happened for Dalton Stanger, who shot 81 in the second round to end the day in a tie for 67th (+12).
BYU will be back in action on Tuesday starting at 8:30 a.m. PDT at the San Diego Country Club. Live stats will be available on the BYU men's golf schedule page.
