SI.com and NBC Sports honor Haws
In addition to being named the WCC Player of the Week following his 42-point outburst against Virginia Tech last week, BYU sophomore Tyler Haws has earned national player of the week honors from NBC Sports and SI.com.

What makes Haws’ performance all the more impressive is that he spent the past two years on a Mormon mission in the Philippines. Not only was he not playing basketball during his time abroad, he wasn’t really working out, either. Everyone knew the kid could play, but the fact that he’s playing at a level where he needs to be seriously considered as the WCC’s Player of the Year at this point in the season is increcible.

The Cougars' 6-foot-5 sophomore guard has been flying under the radar for too long. He broke through in Jimmerific fashion on Saturday, when he scored 42 points -- 29 in the first half -- in a 97-71 win over Virginia Tech. It was the most impressive shooting performance in college basketball this season.
Playing at EnergySolutions Arena in Salt Lake City on Dec. 29, Haws hit 14 of 25 from the field, 6 of 8 from three and 8 of 9 from the free throw line for his 42 points, the most scored by an individual in NCAA Division I men's basketball this season. For the week Haws averaged 28.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals while shooting .543 (19-35) from the field, .750 (9-12) from three and .909 (10-11) from the free throw line.
Haws wasn't the only Cougar to receive national attention following BYU's 97-71 win over Virginia Tech as sophomore forward Josh Sharp's dunk in the second half was the No. 3 play in ESPN SportCenter's Top 10 on Dec. 29.
