A change of plans has given BYU men’s basketball the opportunity to face a pair of national teams in the Acropolis of Athens Tournament.

The Cougars will play a game in Crete as part of their original schedule and then play in the Acropolis Tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday. BYU is a late entry into the tournament as a replacement for the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

The Cougars will face the Greece National Team on Tuesday at 12:15 p.m. MT and the Italian National Team on Wednesday at 9:45 a.m. MT. The games against Greece and Italy will be held in the OAKA Arena at the Olympic Complex at Marousi.

This marks the 26th year of the Acropolis Tournament and the seventh time an NCAA team will compete.  Greece has won the last six tournaments, 11 of the last 13 and 15 overall.

The Cougars are 2-0 on their trip with wins over the Athens All-Stars (88-56) and ASE Doukas (114-45). Charles Abouo and Brock Zylstra are both averaging 17.5 points per game while Abouo is adding 7.0 boards per contest. Noah Hartsock is contributing 16.5 points and 7.0 boards while Stephen Rogers (14.0) and Damarcus Harrison (10.5) have also posted double figure scoring averages.
