LOS ANGELES – Jimmer Fredette was named the Male College Athlete of the Year at the 2011 ESPYs, adding to the numerous awards he has garnered this year. The ESPYs were held at the Nokia Theatre.

Fredette captured hearts of college basketball fans around the nation during the 2010-11 season as he was the NCAA's leading scorer at 28.9 points per game. He led the Cougars to 32 victories and a trip to the Sweet 16 and finished his career as BYU's all-time leading scorer. Fredette set BYU's single-game scoring recorded when he scored 52 points against New Mexico in the MWC Tournament.

By winning the Naismith Trophy, John R. Wooden Award, Oscar Robertson Trophy and numerous others, Fredette made it a clean sweep of the national player of the year honors.

Fredette was up for the Male College Athlete of the Year award along with Andy Miele (Miami-Ohio hockey), Cam Newton (Auburn football), Rob Pannell (Cornell lacrosse) and Kemba Walker (Connecticut basketball).
