BYU’s 58-56 home win over Utah on Feb. 20, 1992 was a key late-season victory in helping the Cougars clinch a share of the WAC regular season title. After the win, BYU fell at New Mexico before winning its last four regular season games by double figures to share the title.

The Cougars led 30-29 at the half against the Utes and the second half was a back-and-forth battle between the in-state rivals. BYU held its biggest lead of the half at 42-39 with 12:07 remaining before Utah went on a 10-1 run to take a six-point lead (49-43) at the 8:55 mark.

The lead was still six at 53-47 when BYU called a timeout with 7:07 remaining. The Cougars then took control as Russell Larsen and Nathan Call scored back-to-back buckets to pull within four. After a Utah basket, Gary Trost hit a field goal and 3-of-4 from the line to give BYU a 56-55 edge with 32 seconds remaining. The Utes drew a foul with nine seconds remaining and a 1-of-2 trip to the line tied the score. BYU completed its comeback with two seconds remaining when Trost scored underneath off a Call assist with one second remaining in the game.
