PROVO -- BYU men’s basketball coach Dave Rose announced Friday that seniors Jackson Emery, Jimmer Fredette and Logan Magnusson have been named captains for the 2010-11 season.

“All three of these guys are proven winners and will be terrific leaders for our team,” Rose said. “They’ve earned the respect of their teammates and have achieved success through their hard work. I’m confident our team is in good hands with Jackson, Jimmer and Logan as our captains.”

Emery was a team captain last season and was named to the All-Mountain West Conference Second Team and the MWC All-Defensive Team. The Alpine, Utah, native also earned USBWA and NABC All-District honors. A two-year starter, Emery averaged 12.5 points and 4.5 rebounds while setting a BYU record and tying the MWC single season record with 91 steals. He also hit 85 threes — tied for second-most in program history — while shooting .487 from the field and .431 from three.

Fredette has been named to several preseason All-America teams after he was named to five All-America teams as a junior. The Glens Falls, N.Y., native was seventh in the nation in scoring last season (22.1) while adding 4.7 assists and shooting .458 from the field, .440 from three and .892 from the free throw line. He scored a BYU-record 49 points at Arizona, had 45 points against TCU in the MWC Tournament and 37 points in BYU’s double-overtime win against Florida in the NCAA Tournament.

Magnusson, a native of Heber City, Utah, enters his second season at BYU after helping the Cougars to the second round of the NCAA Tournament as a junior. The 6-foot-6 forward played in 23 games and shot .400 from the field and .500 from three. Prior to enrolling at BYU, Magnusson helped Salt Lake Community College to the 2009 NJCAA National Championship.
