Abouo to Play in FIBA World Championships

ANKARA -- BYU‘s Charles Abuou will begin competition with the Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) National Team at the 2010 FIBA World Championships against host Turkey on Saturday.

Cote d’Ivoire will play in Group C and face China, Russia, Greece and Puerto Rico in addition to Turkey. The team has played several warmup games this summer against several teams from across the world, including Spain, France, Brazil and Australia. The top four teams from each group will advance to the next round of the FIBA Championships.

Abouo will be a junior with the Cougars in 2010-11. He averaged 4.6 points and 2.5 rebounds for BYU last season. During the summer of 2009, Abouo helped Cote d’Ivoire finish second at the FIBA Afrobasket Championships and qualify for the 2010 FIBA World Championships.
