SALT LAKE -- BYU All-America guard Jimmer Fredette will be named the Male Collegiate Athlete of the Year by the Utah Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society at the organization’s 32nd Annual Dinner of Champions on Sept. 15.

The dinner honors champions in three areas – from the community, in Utah sports and living with MS – each one exemplifying the core values and traits of a true champion. Each honoree has been individually selected by the Dinner of Champions Selection Committee, which consists of leaders in the community and from the National MS Society.

Fredette is coming off a junior season in which he averaged 22.1 points (seventh in the nation) and 4.7 assists while leading the Cougars to 30 victories – a program record. He set BYU records with 49 points and nine threes in a win at Arizona and scored 37 points in a 99-92 double-overtime win over Florida in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

In 2009-10 the Glens Falls, N.Y., native was named to five All-America teams, first-team All-Mountain West Conference and the USBWA District VIII Player of the Year.
