Cougars Celebrate 2009-10 Season at Team Banquet
PROVO -- BYU men's basketball celebrated its record-setting 2009-10 season at its annual awards banquet Wednesday night at the Provo Marriott.
In 2009-10, the Cougars won a school-record 30 games, were ranked as high as No. 10 in the nation and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1993. The season marks the fourth-straight BYU has won at least 25 games, earned an NCAA Tournament bid and been ranked in the top 25 — all firsts for the program.
Rose recognized and expressed gratitude to all those who made the 2009-10 season a success, including the players, coaches, wives, family, doctors, trainers, managers, academic advisors and the many others who support the program.
KSL Newradio’s Greg Wrubell — the voice of the Cougars — served as master of ceremonies and listed the numerous highlights and milestones achieved by the 2009-10 team. KSL television captured the many accomplishments and memories of the year with a video presentation highlighting each player and many of the key moments of the past year, including Rose's recovery from pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor cancer.
Rose was honored with a plaque to celebrate his 100th victory as a head coach — which he achieved early in the season at Hawaii. He was then given a jersey with pink trim with his name and number from his playing days at Houston. The players wore similar jerseys at home against Utah as part of BYU's participation in the Coaches vs. Cancer effort.
Rose then presented the team awards, including framed jerseys for the seniors, Chris Miles, Lamont Morgan, Jr. and Jonathan Tavernari.
The following team awards were presented to the players who added to BYU’s winning tradition during the 2009-10 season.
