COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – BYU junior Jimmer Fredette has been named the Mountain West Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for games through January 31. This is the fourth weekly accolade of the season for Fredette and the sixth of his career overall.

A 6-2 guard from Glens Falls, N.Y., Fredette averaged 31.5 points and 4.5 assists per game while leading BYU to a 1-1 mark in MWC action last week. In a 76-72 loss at then-No. 23 New Mexico, Fredette hit 4-of-6 from 3-point range and was 7-of-7 from the free throw line en route to a game-high 27 points. He also dished out seven assists, pulled down one rebound and grabbed one steal in 34 minutes of action vs. the Lobos. Fredette followed that performance with a game-high 36 points in an 82-69 win over in-state rival Utah at home, marking the most points scored by a BYU player in the history of the rivalry. He netted 23 of his points in the second half, including 20 in the final 10:26, to help the Cougars hold off a late Ute rally. With BYU holding a 66-61 edge with 5:31 left to play, Fredette scored 12 straight points to give the Cougars a 78-65 lead. He also had four rebounds, two assists and one steal in 35 minutes of play, while going 4-of-5 from beyond the arc and 10-of-12 from the charity stripe.
