Cougars Climb in the Rankings

PROVO -- After scoring wins at Air Force and over Colorado State at home last week, BYU men’s basketball climbed to No. 14 in the AP Poll and No. 13 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.

The Cougars—18-1 overall and 3-0 in the MWC—have now won 13-straight games, the longest winning streak since 1992-93 and tied for the third longest winning streak in school history. BYU entered the rankings on Jan. 4 at No. 25 in the AP Poll and No. 23 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll and climbed to No. 18 and No. 17 in the respective polls on Jan. 11.

In 1987-88, BYU climbed to No. 2 in the UPI Coaches Poll and No. 3 in the AP after a 17-0 start. The Cougars finished the season No. 19 in the AP and No. 17 in the UPI that season. At 18-1, the 2009-10 squad has tied the 1987-88 team for the best record through 19 games in program history.
