Fredette Earns Third MWC Player of the Week Award
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – BYU junior Jimmer Fredette has been named the Mountain West Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for games through January 2. This is the third weekly accolade of the season — and second consecutive after earning the award on Dec. 28 — for Fredette and the fifth of his career overall.
A 6-2 guard from Glens Falls, N.Y., Fredette led the Cougars to a 99-69 win at Arizona on December 28 in the Fiesta Bowl Classic. He set a BYU, McKale Center and Fiesta Bowl Classic record, while tying the all-time MWC single-game mark with 49 points. He shot 16-for 23 from the field, including 9-of-13 from beyond the arc and 8-of-9 from the charity stripe. His point total currently ranks as the second highest in the nation this season. Fredette also set the all-time league mark for points by a junior, and tied the Conference record for field goals and three-pointers in a single game. His nine three’s are also a BYU record. Fredette added nine assists, seven rebounds and two steals in 36 minutes of action.
