Recapping Fredette's Big Night at Arizona

TUCSON -- Jimmer Fredette’s recording-setting night in BYU's 99-69 win at Arizona in the Fiesta Bowl Classic on Monday, Dec. 28, was one of the top individual performances in BYU and Mountain West Conference history and in the nation this season.

To recap, Fredette hit 16-of-23 from the field, 9-of-13 from downtown and 8-of-9 from the free throw line for a BYU single-game record 49 points. He had 24 first half points and poured in 25 in the second half.

Fredette earned Fiesta Bowl Classic MVP honors for his performance, which also included nine assists, seven rebounds and two steals.

BYU Records Set

-Most points scored by an individual in a single game (49, previous record of 47 set by Bob Skousen in 1961)

-Most made threes in a single game by an individual (9, previous record of 8 set by Mike Rose in 2003 and 2007)

Other Records

-Most points scored by an individual in a Fiesta Bowl Classic game

-Most points scored by an individual in the McKale Center

-MWC record for most points scored by a junior in a single game

-Ties MWC record for most points by an individual in a single game

-Ties MWC record for most threes by an individual in a single game

National Rankings

-Second most points scored by an individual in a Division I game this season

-Tied for seventh most threes made in a game this season

For the season Fredette is averaging 21.6 points per game while shooting .503 from the field, .444 from three and .926 from the free throw line. He also averages 5.6 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.9 steals. He has scored 20-plus points nine times, eclipsed 30 points twice and 40 once.

Fredette currently leads the conference in scoring and is second in assists and free throw percentage, is third in three-point field goal percentage, fourth in steals, fifth in field goal percentage and assist to turnover ratio and tied for seventh in made threes per game.

Fredette directs a BYU offense that over the last four games has averaged 97.0 points while shooting .612 from the field and .515 from downtown and averaging 18.8 assists. During that stretch Fredette has averaged 31.5 points, 6.3 assists and 2.0 steals while shooting .646 from the field, .500 from three and .938 from the free throw line.
