Fredette, Emery and Haws Earn Vegas Classic Honors

LAS -- After leading the Cougars to the 2009 HoopTV Las Vegas Classic championship, BYU’s Jimmer Fredette was named tournament MVP while Jackson Emery and Tyler Haws were named to the all-tournament team.

The guard trio led the Cougars’ high-octane attack at the Orleans Arena as BYU defeated Nevada 110-104 and Nebraska 88-66. The combined for 132 points — 66.0 per game — and to shoot .705 (43-61) from the field, .545 (12-22) from three and .971 (34-35) from the free throw line.

Fredette posted averages of 28.5 points and 5.0 assists while shooting .679 (19-28) from the field and .944 (17-18) from the free throw line. Against Nevada he scored a career-high 33 points — including a 22-point second half — while dishing out six assists. He went for 24 points and four dimes against Nebraska in the championship game.

Emery accounted for 24.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals while shooting .667 (14-21) from the field, .692 (9-13) from three and 1.000 (11-11) from the free throw line. Emery set a career high with 25 points in the Nevada win and added 23 points against Nebraska.

Haws added 13.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game in the Vegas Classic. He shot .833 (10-12) from the field and 1.000 (6-6) from the free throw line. He was perfect shooting the ball against Nebraska, hitting 7-of-7 from the field and 6-of-6 from the free throw line for a career-best 20 points.
