Exhibition Opener on Thursday Against Trinity Western

PROVO -- The BYU men's basketball team will host Trinity Western University, the first of two exhibition games for the Cougars, in the Marriott Center on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Trinity Western is a private, Christian-affiliated university located in British Columbia, Canada. The Spartans will play three contests in Utah, traveling to Utah Valley University on Tuesday before heading to Provo and then Utah State.

Jacob Doerksen, a 6-foot-6 senior from British Columbia, leads the team with an average of 15.0 ppg and 7.5 rpg while Calvin Westbrook, a 6-foot-5 junior, is averaging 10.5 ppg. Trinity Western is 1-1 after defeating Waterloo and losing to British Columbia.

The Cougars return four starters, including conference first-teamer Jimmer Fredette and third-team selection Jonathan Tavernari, to a team that won its third-straight Mountain West Conference championship and finished with a 25-8 record in 2008-09.

The game will be broadcast on BYUTV, with Jarom Jordan on the play-by-play, Andy Toolson providing color commentary, and Robbie Bullough reporting courtside. The game will also be broadcast via the Internet by KSL on the

X-Stream with Greg Wrubell providing the play-by-play.

BYU will also play Central Washington on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Provo before opening the regular season Friday, Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m. against Bradley at the Marriott Center.
