Brazil Edges Puerto Rico, Claims Title

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (Sept. 6, 2009) -- Brazil defeated Puerto Rico, 61-60, to claim the 2009 FIBA Americas Championship. Leandro Barbosa scored 24 points to lead Brazil.

Brazil Defeats Canada to Advance to Championship

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (Sept. 5, 2009) -- Brazil defeated Canada, 73-65, in the semifinals of the 2009 FIBA Americas Championship. Brazil will face Puerto Rico in the title game.

Brazil Drops Game to Host Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (Sept. 4, 2009) -- Brazil dropped a close game to Puerto Rico, 86-82, in the quarterfinal round of the 2009 FIBA Americas Championship. Brazil now faces Canada in the semifinals.

Tavernari Scores Nine in Big Win Over Mexico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (Sept. 3, 2009) -- The Brazilian Senior National Team remained undefeated at the 2009 FIBA Americas Championship with an 82-62 victory over Uruguay in a quarterfinal round game on Thursday.

BYU's Jonathan Tavernari saw 17 minutes of action in the win and tied his highest-scoring game of the tournament, while hitting 4-of-7 from the field. He also added two rebounds and a steal. Click here for the box score vs. Uruguay.

Brazil plays Puerto Rico on Friday in its next quarterfinal game.

Brazil Claims Spot in Semis and 2010 World Championships

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (Sept. 2, 2009) -- With a 68-59 victory over Canada in the quarterfinal round of the 2009 FIBA Americas Championship, Brazil (6-0) secured a spot in the semifinal round and a spot in the 2010 FIBA World Championships in Turkey.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (Sept. 1, 2009) -- The Brazilian Senior National Team remained undefeated at the 2009 FIBA Americas Championship with a 92-61 victory over Mexico in a quarterfinal round match on Monday.

BYU's Jonathan Tavernari saw 15 minutes of action in the win and had his highest-scoring game of the tournament, hitting 3-of-8 from the field and 2-of-2 from the free throw line for nine points. He also added one rebound, one assist and steal. Click here for the box score vs. Mexico.

Brazil Wins Group With Victory Over Panama

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (Aug. 30, 2009) -- The Brazilian Senior National Team won Group B in the qualifying round of the 2009 FIBA Americas Championship with an 84-64 victory over Panama on Sunday.
