Cummard Signs to Play for Alba Berlin
BERLIN -- Former Cougar and two-time All-MWC First Team honoree Lee Cummard has signed a contract to play professionally for Alba Berlin of the German League.
Cummard is 10th on BYU’s all-time scorers list with 1,569 points. He led the Cougars to three conference titles, three NCAA Tournament bids and a 97-34 record in his four seasons in Provo. In 2008-09 he led the team in scoring (16.8), free throw percentage (.871) and blocks (30) and was second in rebounding (6.2) and assists (3.4). Cummard also holds BYU records for consecutive games played and total games played.
One of the most successful clubs in the German League, Alba Berlin has won eight German National Titles and six German National Cups. Alba won seven straight national championships from 1996 to 2003 and claimed the 2008 title. The club’s most recent German National Cup victory was in 2009.
Alba Berlin will play in the prestigious Euroleague in 2009-10. Alba will play in the first qualifying round starting Sept. 29 against Le Mans. If Berlin advances it will play in a second qualifying round for the opportunity to play in the regular season group play.
