Brazil Defeats Portugal to Finish 3-0

LISBON -- The Brazilian Senior National Team defeated host Portugal 77-73 Sunday to win the International Tournament of Almada with a 3-0 record.

BYU's Jonathan Tavernari registered nine points for Brazil, finishing the three-game series with 45 points.

Brazil will take Monday off before opening the Jogos Da Lusofonia (Lusophony Games) on Tuesday, July 14, against Cape Verde at 2:15 MT. Also participating in the eight-team basketball tournament are Angola, Guinea Bissau, Macau, Mozambique, Portugal and So Tom and Prncipe.

Brazil Downs Finland

LISBON -- The Brazilian Senior National Team defeated Finland 95-89 in the International Tournament of Almada on Saturday. Brazil is now 2-0 in its preparation for the Lusofonia Games, which begin July 14.

Tavernari scored 11 points and Brazil shot 62 percent from downtown and 63 percent on two-point attempts.

Tavernari Hits Game Winner Against Angola

LISBON -- Jonathan Tavernari hit the game-winning shot to lead the Brazilian Senior National Team to an 89-86 victory over Angola on Friday. The game was the first of three in the International Tournament of Almada, an exhibition warmup for the Lusofonia Games to be played from July 14 to 19.

Tavernari tallied a team-high 25 points and broke an 86-all tie with a three. Angola led Brazil 46-39 at the half. Brazil will take on Finland on Saturday, July 11, and Portugal on Sunday, July 12.
