BYU Faces Chaminade Wednesday in Maui
BYU concludes the 2004 EA SPORTS Maui Invitational Wednesday by facing host Chaminade University at 2 p.m. HT (5 p.m. MST) at Lahaina Civic Center. The game will not be televised but the radio broadcast can be heard on KSL Newsradio 1160 or online at KSL.com. The Cougars and Silverswords play in the for 7th place in the tournament. BYU is coming off losses to No. 12 North Carolina (86-50) and Stanford (62-53), who are just out of the top 25, listed 26th. Chaminade suffered losses to No. 13 Texas (84-62) and No. 11 Louisville (93-63).

BYU VS. THE PACWEST CONFERENCE
This year BYU defeated Chaminade league member BYU-Hawaii (85-70) in Provo in exhibition. The Cougars will also play PacWest foe Montana State-Billings later this season in Provo (Jan. 11)
WORTHY OF NOTE FROM FIRST TWO GAMES
-- BYU newcomer Keena Young has played well when on the floor. The sophomore transfer is averaging 7.5 points, third on the team, and 7.0 rebounds, which shares the team lead, in 17.5 minutes per game, the seventh most minutes among Cougar players. He had a team-best 10 rebounds vs. North Carolina.
-- Jared Jensen has shown he can be a go-to player in the post. Despite his limited shot opportunities, he is 7-of-11 from the floor while averaging a team-best 9.5 ppg. He has been among the most consistent Cougars in the early going, scoring nine points vs. North Carolina and a team-high 11 points vs. Stanford.
-- Derek Dawes grabbed 10 rebounds in 16 minutes off the bench vs. Stanford Tuesday. He is averaging 5.0 rebounds per outing.
-- Garner Meads has made some strong offensive moves to try and give the Cougar offense a little spark. He has also proven effective on the glass, sharing team-high rebounding honors after two games with Keena Young at 7.0 rpg.
LOOKING TO IMPROVE
After two games, BYU is shooting just .333 from the floor, including .256 on threes, and .622 from the line. The Cougars have also committed an average of 23 turnovers per game to only 6.0 assists.
INJURY ISSUES
Garner Meads suffered an ankle injury Tuesday. His status for Wednesday's game will be a game-time decision. Although he has played the last two games, Mike Hall is still recovering from an ankle injury that kept him from practicing the week prior to the Maui Invitational.
