Come See Cougar Basketball's New Look

PROVO -- If last week's Midnight Madness sparked your interest for the start of BYU's 1999-2000 basketball action, yet another exciting pre-season opportunity awaits to see the Cougar basketball teams' new look!

The men and women basketball players will be holding their annual picture/media day at the Marriott Center on Thursday, Oct. 28 from 2:30 - 4:00 p.m. The afternoon schedule will feature the following:

BYU Women's Basketball Team -2:30 p.m.

Marriott Center's Video Screen Unveiling -3:00 p.m.

BYU Men's Basketball Team -3:30 p.m.

You definitely won't want to miss the Cougars' upcoming schedule! The BYU women's basketball team finished the 1998-1999 season with a winning record of 16-13, an undefeated conference record at home, and an appearance in the WNIT. Meanwhile the BYU men's basketball team showed much improvement by a 9-5 homecourt record in the past season and a first-round WAC Tournament victory, 90-74, against heavily favored TCU. The Cougars are led by head coaches Trent Shippen and Steve Cleveland, respectively.

In addition to the teams sporting new uniforms, the Marriott Center's scoreboard has also undergone a total change. The old electrosonic video walls were replaced mid-September with new Mitsubishi "Diamond Vision" video screens. The new LED screens allow direct HDTV and computer feeds as well as instant replay and highlights. They are remote controlled for brightness, contrast, color and hue, also allowing for overall light adjustments dependent upon the given event in the arena.

Cecil Harrison, BYU IT Audio/Visual Services Video Supervisor, said fans will immediately notice the recent technological improvements during home basketball games this season.

"The boards installed at the Marriott Center represent the very latest in digital large screen display panels," Harrison said. "The overall effect is to give the viewer the feeling that they are watching their television set at home."
