Health Concerns Force Jepsen to Discontinue Playing Basketball

PROVO -- Reserve BYU basketball center Bret Jepsen will not be able to complete his senior year of collegiate basketball at Brigham Young University due to periodic relapses from last season's head injury and concussion.

"Bret has experienced severe headaches and it has made it very difficult for Bret to focus on the physical aspects of the game," BYU coach Steve Cleveland said. "BYU's medical staff and trainers have met and consulted with Bret and the decision was made to discontinue playing basketball."

The headaches and nausea not only restricted Jepsen's ability to fully participate on the court but also made it difficult for him to complete schoolwork and other related responsibilities. Jepsen will remain on scholarship and plans to graduate from business school in April.
