Williams leads the way as Team White knocks down Team Blue 78-65 at Blue-White Scrimmage

PROVO – BYU men’s basketball hosted the Blue vs. White Scrimmage on Thursday evening at the Marriott Center, with BYU Blue taking home the victory, 68-62.

Rudi Williams was the leading scorer on the night with 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting. Newcomer Jaxson Robinson led the way for the blue team with 16 points on 7-of-19 shooting. 

"This is a good shooting group with a long track record of shooting the ball well," said BYU head coach Mark Pope. "Our shot selection will continue to improve, but these guys can really shoot it and I'm excited about their potential."

First Half

Dallin Hall got things going for team blue early with a layup one minute into the game. Noah Waterman gave team white its first points of the night with a bucket, tying things at two. 

Gideon George got onto the board four minutes into the game with a driving layup forcing an and one tying the game at 7-7. Jaxson Robinson had a quick six points to give the blue team an early 12-7 lead. Knocking down a couple of three-pointers.

Hall continued to apply pressure for the blue team with a quick 5-0 run, giving team blue a 22-13 lead with 12 minutes remaining in the half. 

The white team was able to get things within one, trailing 24-23 after Waterman hit a 3-pointer. George gave team white the lead with a bucket at the rim to make it 25-24. 

Robinson reached double figures with a floater in the key over the outstretched arm of Waterman cutting the white lead to just four points at 36-32. 

Team White continued to extend their lead with the scoring of Fousseyni Traore scoring in the post and Williams hitting back-to-back 3-pointers. 

George brought the Marriot Center to its feet with back-to-back blocks on Spencer Johson and Hall with about 45 seconds left.

Williams and George had 15 points in the first half as their team led 54-37 at the break. 

Second Half

Team blue had no answer for George in the opening minutes of the second half as his old fashioned 3-point play extended team white's lead to 20, 57-37. 

Atiki Ally Atiki started a rally with a 3-pointers from the top of the key followed by a steal and score from Johnson to make cut team blue's deficit to 11 points with 15 minutes remaining in the game. 

Tanner Toolson switched to team white and pushed their lead back to 12, 70-58, with a 3-pointer.
