Men’s basketball announces addition of Rudi Williams

PROVO, Utah – BYU men’s basketball head coach Mark Pope announced on Saturday afternoon that Rudi Williams has signed a Financial Aid Contract to play for the Cougars in 2022-23.

Williams, a 6-foot-2 guard, will have one season of eligibility remaining after appearing in 117 games in stops at Coastal Carolina, Kansas State and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.

The Hamilton, Ontario native played in 33 games including 26 starts for the Chanticleers in 2021-22 where he finished ninth in the Sun Belt in scoring. He scored 14.7 points per game, shooting 50.9 percent from the field, 44.7 percent from 3-point range and 73.5 percent from the free throw line. He scored in double figures 24 times including in all four games of the The Basketball Classic where he earned all-tournament accolades.

He spent the 2020-21 season at Kansas State where he appeared in 27 games with four starts, averaging 4.8 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. He ranked fifth on the team in 3-point makes, knocking down at least one triple in 11 games including a season-high four in a win over Milwaukee.

Williams spent two seasons at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M where he established himself as one of the top guards in the country. As a sophomore, he earned NJCAA Second Team All-American and Region II Player of the Year accolades after leading the nation in assists.

He finished his two-year stint in Miami, Okla. with 24 double-doubles and six triple-doubles, four of those coming with him scoring 20 or more points.
