Traore named West Coast Conference Freshman of the Week
SAN MATEO, Calif. – BYU’s Fousseyni Traore was named the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Week for a fourth time on Monday after helping the Cougars finish the regular season with victories over Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine.
Traore is one of three freshmen to earn weekly honors multiple times this season as the 6-foot-6 forward averaged 18.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game, shooting 71.4 percent from the field and 77.8 percent from the free throw line.
After scoring 12 points on Thursday against LMU, Traore pulled down a freshman record 19 rebounds against Pepperdine en route to his seventh double-double of the season. The Bamako, Mali also scored a career-high 25 points against the Waves, going 9-of-10 from the field and 7-of-9 from the free throw.
Traore and the Cougars return to action on Friday, March 4, when they take on the winner of LMU and Pacific at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. MST.
