Traore Named WCC Freshman of the Week
PROVO, Utah – For the second time this season, BYU’s Fousseyni Traore was named the West Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Freshman of the Week.
BYU improved to 4-0 with Traore in the starting lineup last week as the Cougars opened WCC play with wins over Pacific and Saint Mary’s. He averaged 10.5 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks helping BYU open WCC play 2-0 for the first time since 2016-17.
He recorded his second career double-double on Thursday finishing with 12 points and 11 rebounds, four of those coming on the offensive glass. He also tied a career-high with three blocks in 26 minutes of action.
In Saturday’s win over SMC, he finished with nine points and 11 rebounds becoming the first freshman to have 10 or more rebounds in consecutive regular season games since Yoeli Childs did it twice in 2016-17.
