BYU opens West Coast Conference play on Thursday

PROVO, Utah – BYU opens West Coast Conference play on Thursday, Jan. 6, when it hosts Pacific at the Marriott Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. MST.

Thursday’s contest will be broadcast on BYUtv and BYUtv app. It will also be broadcast live on BYU Sports Network on the BYU Radio – Sirius XM 143/89.1 FM HD2 and KSL 102.7 FM/1160 AM.

BYU Notes (12-3, 0-0 West Coast Conference)

  • The Cougars finished 2021 on a high note with a 65-53 victory over Westminster on Dec. 29 in Provo. It was their 18th straight win over a non-Division I opponent since 2000.
  • Gideon George scored a season-high 17 points against Westminster as the senior hit a career-high five 3-pointers. Over the past five games, the senior from Minna, Nigeria is shooting 50.0 percent from beyond the arc.
  • Alex Barcello enters Thursday’s game eight points shy of becoming the 52nd player in program history to score 1,000 points. The Cougars leading scorer also ranks 12th on the all-time list in 3-pointers.

  • Pacific enters WCC play at 5-9 after dropping six of final seven non-conference games including three straight losses to North Dakota State, UC Davis and Cal.
  • The Tigers are led by first-year head coach Leonard Perry, who spent the 2021-22 season as the associate head coach under Damon Stoudamire. He was previously a head coach at his alma mater, Idaho, for five seasons.
  • Jeremiah Bailey is one of three Tigers to score in double figures as the senior forward is scoring 10.6 points per game. He is shooting 45.3 percent from the field, 41.9 percent from 3-point range and 56.5 percent from the charity stripe.
