BYU Faces No. 12 Oregon on Tuesday in Phil Knight Invitational
PROVO, Utah – BYU men’s basketball hits the road for the first time this season on Tuesday when the Cougars face No. 12 Oregon at the Phil Knight Invitational at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. MST.
Tuesday’s contest will be broadcast on ESPN. It will also be broadcast live on BYU Sports Network on BYU Radio – Sirius XM 143/89.1 FM HD2 and KSL 102.7 FM/1160 AM.
BYU Notes (2-0, 0-0 West Coast Conference)
- BYU picked up three victories during the opening week of the season, two of those coming on the court. Following a 69-59 victory over Cleveland State in the season opener on Tuesday, four-star recruit Collin Chandler from Farmington High School signed with Cougars on Wednesday. The momentum continued to Friday’s game against San Diego State where more than 4,000 students in the ROC helped propel BYU to a 66-60 victory over the Aztecs in a frenetic environment.
- Alex Barcello continues to lead the Cougar offense as the senior guard from Chandler Ariz. Is averaging 20.5 points per game following his 17-point performance against the Aztecs. He is shooting 68.6 percent from the field, 57.1 percent from 3-point range and 100.0 percent from the free throw line. He has hit 35 consecutive free throws, 15-shy of the program-record set by Tyler Haws in 2012. His current stretch has him at No. 4 all time.
- Te’Jon Lucas reached double figures for the first time as a Cougar on Friday, finishing with 13 points. The senior was only 2-of-12 from the field but was a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe.
- Fousseyni Traore doesn’t play like a freshman as the Wasatch Academy product is averaging 7 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game off the bench for the Cougars. He was instrumental in Friday’s victory finishing with 9 points and 8 rebounds in 27 minutes of action. He's gotten a big bump in minutes with starting center Richard Harward being sidelined.
- The Cougars make a trip to Oregon for a nonconference game for the first time since facing the Ducks in Eugene, Oregon. on Dec. 21, 2014.
- Spencer Johnson’s little brother, Isaac, is a freshman center for the Ducks. The younger Johnson has appeared in both games this season after returning from his mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Ohio.

- Oregon went 2-0 in the opening weekend with wins over Texas Southern and SMU at the Matthew Knight Arena.

- Through two games, Oregon is scoring 84.5 points per game while shooting 45.7 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from beyond the arc and 71.4 percent from the free throw line. They have five players averaging in double figures scoring.
- Will Richardson is the leading scorer for the Ducks through two games as the Hinesville, Georgia. native is scoring 19.0 points per contest. He has been deadly from 3-point range, connecting on 8 of 13 attempts from beyond the arc.
- Junior college transfer Rivaldo Soares has made an immediate impact for the Ducks on the glass with a team-high 6.0 rebounds per game. The NJCAA All-American out of South Plains College had 10 points and 7 rebounds, two of those on the offensive end, in Friday’s win over SMU.
