Barcello earns Player of the Week award from College Sports Madness
PROVO, Utah — After leading the Cougars in scoring in two huge West Coast Conference road wins last week over St. Mary’s and San Francisco, BYU senior guard Alex Barcello has been named the College Sports Madness WCC Player of the Week.
Barcello scored 14 against the Gaels and 19 against the Dons. He added four rebounds, three assists and two steals in the two games. Perhaps his most important contribution was going 10-for-10 from the free throw line in the final 1:48 of the San Francisco game, helping BYU maintain its cushion while the Dons hit some late threes.
Despite only going 1-5 from three-point range on the weekend, Barcello continues to lead the nation in three-point percentage among those who’ve shot 40 or more threes, knocking down 56.4 percent.
Barcello and the Cougars have won six of their last seven games overall and are back home at the Marriott Center to take on Portland and Pepperdine this week on Thursday and Saturday respectively.
