Cougars take on Aggies Saturday in Logan

BYU men’s basketball (4-1) is on the road again Saturday, Dec. 5, in Logan, Utah, versus in-state rival Utah State (1-2) at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. The game is scheduled to tipoff at 7:00 p.m. and will be streamed live on the Mountain West Network. 

The game will also be broadcast on the BYU Sports Radio Network on KSL Radio 102.7 FM/1160 AM, BYUradio SiriusXM 143, BYUradio.org, BYUradio app, BYU Cougars app, or the BYU Gameday App. Jason Shephard and Mark Durrant will have the radio call. 

Below are a few notes related to the BYU-USU matchup and series. 

  • BYU comes into the contest at 4-1 with wins over Westminster, New Orleans, Utah Valley and St. John’s, and a lone loss to USC.
  • Utah State is 1-2 with a win over Northern Iowa and losses to VCU and South Dakota State.
  • Utah State lost its leading scorer from the 2019-20 season in Sam Merrill, but returns 55.7% of its scoring from last year’s roster. BYU returns just 29% of its scoring from a season ago.
  • BYU head coach Mark Pope is 1-1 all-time as head coach against Utah State. He was coaching at Utah Valley during the 2018-19 season when the Wolverines lost in Logan 65-46. In his first season at BYU, Pope guided the Cougars to 68-64 win over the Aggies at Vivint Smart Home Arena on Dec. 14, 2019. 
  • BYU and Utah State have met on the court 120 times in basketball. The Cougars lead the overall series 71-49.
  • BYU has won nine of the past 10 meetings. Utah State’s last win came in 2011 at home 69-62.
