Haws earns Academic All-America Third Team honors

AUSTIN, Texas – BYU senior guard TJ Haws has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-America Third Team, announced today by CoSIDA.

A finance major with a 3.46 GPA, Haws has helped the Cougars to a No. 15 ranking in the AP and USA Today Coaches Polls and a record of 24-7 overall and 13-3 in the West Coast Conference. An All-WCC First Team honoree, Haws is averaging 14.3 points, 2.5 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 1.4 steals while shooting 47.2 percent from the field, 37.7 percent from 3-point range and 76.2 percent from the free-throw line. He has posted season highs of 29 points, 14 assists and four steals.

Haws, from Alpine, Utah, is 28th in the nation in assists per game and 45th in assist/turnover ratio. He is second and third in those same categories in the WCC while also ranking ninth in the league in scoring, seventh in field goal percentage, eighth in steals and sixth in 3-point field goals per game.

For his career, Haws is a three-time WCC All-Academic honoree and has earned All-WCC honors all four years. He received first-team recognition as a freshman and senior, second-team honors as a junior and honorable mention as a sophomore. In the BYU record book, Haws is seventh all-time in scoring, second in assists, third in 3-point field goals and eighth in steals. 

Haws is the ninth player in BYU men’s basketball history to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors and the first since Eric Mika was named to the Academic All-America Second Team in 2017.
